I have decided to make available to my customers fly gear that is exceptionally well designed but is not commonly found in stores, gear that is appropriate to use with Stonefly custom fly rods.
I am always evaluating reels and lines, and am as careful with my selections as I am with building custom fly rods. The two products that I have chosen to carry at present are Shilton reels and Monic lines.
Shilton reels are designed and made by a high-precision engineering firm in South Africa, and are just becoming available in the US. They have been extensively tested and used under the most demanding conditions, including salt water tournaments, and are the best freshwater reels that I have ever seen. They are light, beautiful, smooth, and extremely strong. I am carrying two of their designs: the CL series, a standard arbor freshwater reel, and the CK series, a freshwater large arbor design.
Fly line technology has advanced considerably in the past decade, but the majority of lines are still a type of PVC coating over a braided nylon core. Other aspects of the fishing world have learned the superiority of gel-spun (GSP) lines long ago; they are light, extremely strong, and best of all have no stretch. 
Monic Fly Lines of Boulder, Colorado has developed floating lines with a GSP core that are, in a word, phenomenal. The lines are light and thin, resulting in minimal surface drag and superb fly presentation, and they really float! I can personally attest that the GSP core increases an angler's time to react, resulting in more strikes, especially while nymphing, and more fish are landed. The Monic GSP lines are the most sensitive fly line on the market.
I am carrying two of their lines: the MDT and the SKYline.
